IHC reserves decision on admissibility of petition on Supreme Court's jurisdiction over dam funds

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court Tuesday reserved its decision on the admissibility of a petition challenging the Supreme Court's jurisdiction over dam funds.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Amir Farooq questioned why the petitioner did not object when the dam fund was being collected.

Chief Justice Farooq also commented that if there were any objections to the dam funds, the State Bank would have raised them and the account would not have been opened.

The petitioner's lawyer argued that building a dam is the work of the executive, and is not the Supreme Court's responsibility.

Furthermore, the lawyer claimed that the Supreme Court did not have the authority to collect funds in this manner. The petition also requested the removal of the Chief Justice's name from the account title and an immediate halt to the Registrar Supreme Court from using the funds.

The Court reserved its decision on the admissibility of the petition. The respondents in the case include former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, Finance Division, State Bank, Prime Minister's Office, Registrar Supreme Court, and Public Accounts Committee.
